Portuguese Renal Foundation

The Portuguese Renal Foundation (FRP) is a Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS), a non-profit organisation recognised by the Directorate-General for Social Security under Ordinance No. 139/2007 of 29 January as a public-benefit legal entity.

Its primary objective is to provide medical, clinical and compassionate care to people with chronic kidney disease (CKD), contributing, wherever possible, to ensuring and improving the treatment of their condition and facilitating the circumstances that enable them to lead a normal life. It also seeks to promote scientific research into the prevention and treatment of kidney disease and all related activities, as well as to prevent and alleviate human suffering, particularly among people with chronic kidney disease.

These objectives may be pursued either directly or indirectly, through institutions, or by organising and providing medical, surgical and clinical resources and by treating and supporting patients. This includes the construction, maintenance and management of hospitals, haemodialysis centres and clinics, using the Foundation’s own human and material resources, as well as grants and donations from public or private entities or individuals. It may also enter into agreements or arrangements with public or private bodies, whether national, regional or local, as well as with commercial companies, associations, groups or foundations of any kind.
